Nick Foster is a United States citizen who has been teaching for 15 years. He began his career as a journalist, but he discovered a love for teaching with AmeriCorps in 2004. After that,
he taught with the U.S. Peace Corps for nearly three years in the small Central American country of Belize. This experience changed his life and piqued his interest in world travel. Before and after teaching at a school for three years in Los Angeles, California, he traveled to more than
20 countries. When he arrived in Thailand, he realized it was his favorite place, so he never left! He has been teaching here since 2014. One thing that he has learned about teaching English in Thailand is that the sounds of the two languages are vastly different. When he begins teaching a new student, he always focuses on sounds. His students learn to speak while simultaneously learning how to read and write — even if they don’t know it right away.
