Raffles American School’s High School program prepares students for both university success and life beyond the classroom.
Through a carefully designed combination of U.S. Common Core Standards (Grades 9–10) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (Grades 11–12), our students develop the knowledge, independence, and integrity needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
RAS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), ensuring our programs meet the highest international standards of education and student support.
Grades 9–10: U.S. Common Core Foundations
In Grades 9 and 10, students study under the U.S. Common Core Standards, building strong academic foundations and essential skills in literacy, mathematics, science, and the humanities.
This stage focuses on helping students become confident, critical thinkers ready to transition to the rigor of the IB Diploma Programme.
Focus Areas:
“The early high school years are where students learn to take ownership of their education — developing confidence and curiosity that will carry into the IB years.”
RAS offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) for Grades 11 and 12 — an internationally recognized qualification respected by universities worldwide. The IB curriculum challenges students to think critically, research deeply, and act ethically as global citizens.
From Early Years through Grade 10, RAS emphasizes the General Learning Outcomes (GLOs), which guide student growth in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and global citizenship.
In Grades 11–12, the focus transitions to the Approaches to Learning (ATLs) within the IB framework, cultivating the skills and dispositions essential for success in higher education and beyond:
Research skills – locating, evaluating, and synthesizing information effectively
Thinking skills – applying critical, creative, and reflective thinking
Communication skills – expressing ideas clearly and confidently across formats
Self-management skills – organization, goal-setting, and emotional regulation
Social skills – collaboration, leadership, and empathy
This progression from GLOs to ATLs ensures continuity in skill development and aligns our upper secondary program with international standards and the IB philosophy.
RAS is authorized to offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses for Grades 10–12; however, the AP program is no longer a primary focus of the high school curriculum. We currently offer one or two AP courses based on teacher expertise and student interest. The IB Diploma Programme now serves as the main academic pathway for Grades 11–12.
As MSHS Vice Principal, I am proud to play a central role in supporting both the academic and personal growth of our students. Over the past five years, it has been incredibly rewarding to watch our academic program grow and evolve to better meet the needs of every learner.
In my role, I focus on advancing our mastery-based approach to learning, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, promoting positive behavior, and supporting students throughout their educational journey. I firmly believe that every student can develop their skills and understanding through perseverance and targeted support, and I am committed to helping create an environment where every learner feels challenged, valued, and empowered.
Seeing our students grow not just academically, but also personally, is the most rewarding part of what I do. I am dedicated to supporting them in all facets of their development, helping them build the skills, confidence, and character needed for success beyond the classroom.
